American Red Cross Statement on Compression-Only CPR
0 Comments | U.S. Newswire, Jul 28, 2010
WASHINGTON, July 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — “Articles published today in The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) cite a pair of studies on Compression-Only Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), sometimes called continuous chest compressions, Hands-Only CPR, or cardio cerebral resuscitation (CCR).

“These articles validate the American Red Cross guidance on Compression-Only CPR. The Red Cross encourages everyone to be trained in full CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). We support the links in the Cardiac Chain of Survival including: early recognition and early access to the 911 system, early CPR, early use of an AED until professional medical responders arrive and take over.
“We recognize that upon witnessing the sudden collapse of an adult, calling 9-1-1, and providing Compression-Only CPR until an AED is available is an acceptable alternative for those who are unwilling, unable, or not trained to perform full CPR.
“The NEJM articles also support the Red Cross position that further research is needed. It is important to note that the Red Cross is helping to lead this research through a CPR skill retention study which looks at different educational models and Compression- Only CPR versus full CPR.
“Full CPR is recommended for infants and children since they experience sudden cardiac arrest primarily due to respiratory problems causing a loss of oxygen. Since a child’s oxygen levels in the blood are low at the time of cardiac arrest, they need rescue breaths to improve oxygen levels and aid in resuscitation

But The cost savings do not stop at the pump; they continue as you drive down the road and by this we are talking fuel economy. The diesel is the king of this domain. With some
diesels getting over 70 mpg, this is by far the best bang for the buck.
So the diesel wins in fuel economy and maintenance. But are there disadvantages to diesel? Well, diesel engines aren’t perfect. They can be a little noisier than gas engines, though this small amount of noise usually fades at cruising speed. They also lack a bit in acceleration compared to gas engines.
However, despite these small shortcomings, diesels are certainly becoming more user friendly and more economical and each day more and more people are choosing to go this route.

You improve by taking hard workouts and your muscles grow and heal while you recover on your easy days. Of course, if you could recover faster from a hard workout, you could do more work and be a better athlete. Scientists have known for years that you recover faster by eating carbohydrates immediately after you finish your hard workout. Other studies show that eating extra protein on the day that you take hard workouts helps you recover even faster. Eating extra protein reduces muscle damage during hard exercise. Eating carbohydrates along with a protein building block called leucine helps you to recover even faster.
Chronic muscle fatigue in athletes is associated with low blood levels of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. The sooner you eat protein after you finish your hard workout, the quicker you will recover. The benefits of eating protein soon after you lift weights does not apply just to elite athletes.

And of course, a deterioration of the physical side and probably my health. When has it been that a belly is associated with good health? God forbid, I had better start an exercise regime to get back into shape, and salvage my health.
But what should I do?
Well, my commonsense tells me I should be putting myself to some workout at home, and start to exercise somewhat.
Should I get a exercise workbench, or start to pump some irons? Should I join the masses of people who run around the Lake nearby at the break of dawn or go climb the hills nearby and walk through the woods nearing sunset?
What is the best form of exercise for a home bound man and needing some results fast?
My best friend chipped in.

The weight loss doesn?t happen very rapidly but it is a very slow process and looks like any other weight reducing programme in the beginning. But it is after some months you realize the effect it has taken upon your health.
This affects the personality of the person drastically and the outgoing and extrovert person becomes very introvert and subdued. The level of concentration starts depleting too which proves to be big problem for many young people who are the major victims in this disease. The inability to maintain 15 percent of an individual?s normal weight is one of the very serious matters which have to be handled very delicately. Due to starving process there are repeated practices of binge eating and vomiting. Fear plays a very important part, as it the fear of putting on weight, that they discard the idea of being hungry which can also be said as killing yourself gradually and slowly.
The shrinking body is the number one sign you would see in all the people suffering from anorexia. The minimal body weight of the person is also not maintained which makes it very risky for the person.

Viking ship takes pupils to the past
0 Comments | Evening Post; Bristol (UK), Jul 27, 2010
CHILDREN have built a Viking longship.
The day-long project allowed Year 4 pupils at Flax Bourton Church of England Primary School to put authentic methods into practice by building a replica ship.
On Wednesday morning, pupils learned traditional skills such as weaving and sewing sails, and made dragon heads, lodestone compasses and Viking shields.
Construction of the ship started just before lunch, and it was completed before the end of the day.
The finished product was a quarter scale model, which measured five metres in length, and could fit eight children.
At the end of the day, the ship was taken apart and stored, ready to be constructed again.
Beech class teacher, Keith Bennett said: “It was an excellent day, and what staggered us most was the realism of the boat. It was really impressive.”
The next day, Year 5 and 6 pupils had their turn at building a Tudor house.
The workshops were organised by Make Your Own History, a group who offer educational history based activities to key stage two children.

They think they know what they need to know. But they’re wrong. People who stop learning stifle their opportunities, reduce their results and limit their life’s potential.
These status quo people can be found in any age group. I’ve known as many twenty-five year olds as fifty-five year olds with this self-limiting mentality at work. You see, it’s not an age, but a mind-set. Are you a finished product or a work in progress? How you answer impacts your future.
People who embrace an ancora imparo philosophy are easy to spot in the workplace. These are the people with new ideas; the ones focused on continuous improvement; the ones enhancing their productivity and constantly developing their skills.

It’s boat races without water
0 Comments | Plymouth Evening Herald, The, May 13, 2010 | by CARL EVE
STUDENTS at a city college took part in a virtual rowing competition which used cutting edge technology. More than 100 students from City College Plymouth took part in the week-long event with each of the machines connected via specially designed software, enabling each rower to see their ‘boat’ on a large screen.
The college’s sports hall housed 16 rowing machines which saw students competing in teams of eight, four and two and as individuals.
Ben Northcott won the boys individual, Jade Hankinson was successful in the girls individual and the team winners were the second-year BTEC Sports students.
Phil Hague, Further Education Sports Co-ordinator at the college, said: “This has been a really worthwhile event — the competitive element to this activity has been great in motivating and encouraging students, which in turn has led to more teams competing and more races taking place.
“The students were definitely motivated by seeing their competitors and, of course, themselves on the large screen, encouraging them to complete the 500 or 1,000-metre distance.”

Take notes for each call and keep a copy of each letter. If the debt does ever go to court, you will have proof you acted legally.
* Look into reporting the debt to credit bureaus. If you can, and are willing to do it, you can tell the debtor that not paying will impact his credit rating.
* Best tip of all: hand over the job to a dedicated collection agency. Small business debt collection services start at as little as $20 per debt. The fight to get paid is a fight no business should have to involve itself in.
Unfortunately, debt collections are a part of business. Just make sure that for your local business debt collection law is followed to the letter, or legal proceedings may become part of your business, too.
